The Gable family owned the house until 1973 when Robert McWhirk bought the mansion and started the rehabilitation project. Gable Mansion and Landmark
When Edward Gilbert created the plans for the house in 1885, they were also published in California Architecture and Building News in 1887, a leading trade journal in California. It was a fine example of 19th century Victorian Italian design. The Gables were early ranchers in the area, raising sheep and cattle on their 8,500 acre ranch.

NO. 864 GABLE MANSION - The Gable Mansion, an outstanding example of 19th-century Victorian Italianate architecture, is one of the last of its style, size, and proportion in California. This structure was built in 1885 for Amos and Harvey Gable, pioneer Yolo County ranchers.
