Adventure: 065 – Claim an
Island
Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date: June 27, 2012
Location: Stoney Ridge Lake
Description:
You may have heard the John Donne quote, No Man is an Island, Each … is Part of the Main. But it it is also equally true that each of us should have a little part of the land, or shall we say a piece of the rock. So that being said, when team Thing One, Thing Two saw this lake with its islands, who could hold us back from claiming a piece? The Cat in the Hat charged forward, splashing in the the cold waters of Stoney Ridge Lake, near Lake Tahoe—who said that cats do not go into the water? Thing One followed a couple of steps slower to claim their place—Thing Two documented our adventure. Team Thing One, Thing Two claimed this special part of the universe as Thing One, Thing Two Island.
Later on, at Upper Velma Lake, we came across another very claimable island and christened it Cat in the Hat Island. Have to keep that cat happy. :-) After all, a happy cat is a purring cat.
Technically, the island we claimed is called an eyot or a holm—an island land-mass within a lake. I suppose that given that there were several rock islands protruding nearby, we may have discovered an archipelago.
