Location:
Latitude: 37°18′08″N
Longitude: 120°28′50″W
Address: 401 West 18th Street, Merced, CA

Description:
Date Built: 1932
Architect: Allison & Allison

US Post Offices were grand buildings, even for small farming towns like Merced. This one is no different, Built during the Great Depression, these buildings showed communities like Merced the US Government was going to be there for them. This Post Office does have its original engraved stone built date on it, but we could not locate a plaque with the National Historic Registry on it.

From the NRHP:
As a moderately scaled, relatively small public building, the Federal Building at Merced does not present a radical departure from the other architecture of the city. It differs primarily in the degree of refinement of design and construction which it displays - a degree unmatched in the Merced central business district. For this reason, and given the building's heavy business and social use, it stands out as a local landmark, a visual anchor for the neighborhood and a prominent architectural feature in the city.

Adventure 008, Hike 020 - Bridalveil Falls

Capture California, the Game-2012
Adventure: 008, Hike 020 – Bridalveil Falls
Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date:  June 24, 2012
Location: Yosemite Valley
Hike Info:
Trail: Bridalveil Trail
Distance: 1.4 miles
Duration: 0:51
Elevation Rise: 142'

Description:
Bridalveil Falls Trail is usually the first trail which any first time park visitor does. Today we took two friends of our daughter, our daughter and our son to Yosemite Valley. Rachel's friends were either first time or not very frequent visitors. It is always a wonderful thing to see the Valley through the eyes of first time visitors.

Instead of parking in the already packed, waiting room only parking lot, we went a little bit further down the road and parked on the side of the road. From there, we followed a path to the main path. Since we traveled from Fresno, we took a detour back to the parking lot to use the accommodations. Then it was back up to Bridalveil Falls Vista Point. While the spray from the falls was light, it still was there. While these falls may never go dry, this year towards Fall, there may only be a few drops going over the side.

Being such a little hike, we were wondering about the suitability for Capture California. But when we look at NPS' list of hikes for the Valley, lo and behold, there it was!. An easy hike, but a hike no less.
