Location: Fish Camp
Description:What better place to talk about fishing than a place called Fish Camp—or more particularly Fish Camp Falls? In case you are interested, Fish Camp was formerly named Happy Camp, then Berry's Fish Camp, and finally just plain old Fish Camp. The origins to the name is that there used to be fishery housed here. Now, all that is left is a nice pond. But I digress and this story has almost nothing to do with the town of Fish Camp, but the falls which are about two and half miles outside of town.
On our hike up to Upper Fish Camp Falls, we came across a family coming down. Thing One noticed the Dad had fishing poles and so we got into a talk. Thing One had noticed a few fish jumping in one of the holes, but they were a bit small. In talking with the family, they just moved here from Texas and had found this hike in a guide book. The Dad had taken the poles up to help his kids learn to fish. They were using barbless hooks or no hooks. This was because the holes where the fish were also would be great swimming holes. He felt that it is not a very considerate thing to have hook on the bottom of these holes, just waiting for a swimmer to come along and get snagged on them.
So the advice: Be considerate of others while you are fishing.
