Adventure: 097 – Tidal Pools
Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date: September 6, 2012
Location: Cambria
Peter Kreft, a professor at Boston University, says that the sea
provides us the energy of the four year old and has a magical effect
on us. All the more so are tidal pools. Not only the energy of a four
year old, but it turns us into four year olds, with all of the
curiosity of one. And that is what we turned into during our walk
along Moonstone Beach. When we saw some flat rocks, close to some
waves breaking, we knew that we were close and when we saw a path
down to these rocks, we went. And curious we were, poking around
several pools, seeing limpets, crabs and starfish—moderns now call
these sea-stars, somehow this seems so wrong. Even birds and kelp are
present, supplying the aura of mystery to these rocks and pools. Then
a wave comes in, sometimes gently refreshing the pools; other times
they will crash in. However the water comes in, we welcome the
refreshing of the pools and our spirits.
