Capture California

What is a YOLT? Well, you may have heard the term YOLO. Gary and Sherri think we can live again, not as James Bond, but as being reborn. Consequently, we are having fun in our life, after all, You Only Live Twice.

Adventure 008, Hike 100 High Trail to Round Valley

Capture California, the Game-2012
Adventure: 008-100: High Trail to Round Valley
Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date:  September 6, 2012
Location: Mount San Jacinto State Park
Description:  This is the part of the 8000 meter challenge where your mind simply starts going crazy. After the mad mad mad rush to catch the last tram we made it to the top of tram. From that point we had to hike to Round Valley with our camping gear, set up camp, and then hike to the top of San Jacinto for the final mountain. I tried talking to our permit ranger about Capture California, but she didn’t know about it.
After Seigi  and I got our permit we started a hike to Round Valley. There are two trails to get to Round Valley; the shorter Low Trail and the longer High Trail. We were intending to go on Low Trail but as we came to our first trail head we realized that we were on the longer one. That extra half mile is killer on a day like that! After 2.3ish miles of endless map reading and compass checking, we got into camp around 9:30, grabbed some soup from the soup kitchen that the Steripen people set up, and got ready to hike the peak.
