Gary with Joshua |
Capture California, the Game-2013
Adventure: 116-Joshua
Trees
Team: YOLT
Date: May
7, 2013
Location:
Mojave Desert
Description:
We traveled down the road to Cima, off of I-15. Then we started spotting these strange looking desert plants. After several miles, we realized, these are Joshua Trees. Looking like a cross between a yucca plant and a palm tree, these critters soon spread out as far as we could see. In fact later on, we would hike through the world's largest forest of Joshua Trees. Just amazing!

Sherri under a Joshua Tree |
Seeing these trees you can understand
why the Mormom settlers named the
Yucca
brevifolia Joshua Tree. With its arms stretched towards the heaven,
it reminds one of a a person praying to heaven. These trees can
survive for hundreds of years in some of the most hostile places on
earth. In the United States, this tree grows only in the southwest.
