Description:
This was our last hike in preparation for the JMT. We had planned a 4 day hike. We had elevation length of time and some longer days from our previous hikes. We had even invited one of our new meetup friends for this adventure. On day 3 of our hike, our plans are to hike up to Vogelsang Lake. We had planned originally to camp here but were concerned about having snow around the lake and being in a deep freeze. Our starting point this day is Fletcher Lake, close to Vogelsang High Sierra Camp. We head out of camp on a well marked trail. We come to a stream without a bridge that we need to get across. Our friend Betty does not want to walk across the log. I am also not a fan of that so we decide to wade across. On our way to the lake we have to make it across snow fields. Gary leads us across as Betty and I follow. I carefully make sure my feet are secure in the snow with each step. Our efforts to get to the lake are rewarded with a beautiful lake surrounded by snow. We take a nice break there. Gary take a dip and claims a island. It is hard to decide to head back to camp but that time must come and away we go. For more on this hike, see our blog.
