This is a hike we have done many a time. A lot of those times have been with a full moon. What makes this hike so good? Well, first, it is short and relatively easy. You get great views of the Valley. Plus, it is a dome and you see the entire night sky above you. Just a great place to view. Such as last year, we had us and 80+ of our new best friends up there.
Tonight, it is a bit cool with a cloud cover. The hike is our normal one. This trip includes our son Steven and his friend Mark. We start at the Glacier Point road and walk about northwestward. At the base of the dome, we meet the old road and the trail from Glacier Point. The trail then loops around the back of the dome so you have the Valley to your backs. This is always a good excuse to stop and look out. The top is reached around 9. There are people there, but not a lot of them.
We do get to enjoy the moon as it comes out from behind the clouds. Then it is back down the dome, keeping our headlights off for most of the trip back to the car. We get into Fresno around midnight.
