Capture California

What is a YOLT? Well, you may have heard the term YOLO. Gary and Sherri think we can live again, not as James Bond, but as being reborn. Consequently, we are having fun in our life, after all, You Only Live Twice.

Adventure 051, Site 060 – Fire Engine #1

Capture California, the Game-2012
Adventure: 051, Site 060 – Fire Engine #1
Landmark Number: Unknown

Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date:  September 25, 2012
Location:
Address: 112 2nd St, Sacramento, CA

Description:

 Date Built: June 1853

There is some confusion about this firehouse, at least in Thing One's mind. It, for sure, is historic. But what landmark? What name? The plaque says this is the site of Fire Engine #3. But the records show #3 to being on 1215 19th St.

What I can piece together is that at this location, the original, volunteer fire department of Sacramento was started with engines #1. This was housed at this site. Engine #2 came along and was housed on 10th street, also as a volunteer company. In 1872, Sacramento's fire department became a paid staff. Someplace in the late 1800's, engine #3 came along and was housed at the 19th Street location. By the time 1885 came along, the Salvation Army started holding meetings in the building on 2nd Street. The current occupants of the building is a restaurant, appropriately named the Firehouse Resturant—I hope they serve their food good and hot.
