Capture California

What is a YOLT? Well, you may have heard the term YOLO. Gary and Sherri think we can live again, not as James Bond, but as being reborn. Consequently, we are having fun in our life, after all, You Only Live Twice.

Adventure 085 – Downtown Fairfield

Capture California, the Game-2012
Adventure: 085 – Downtown Fairfield
Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date:  September 21, 2012
Location: Downtown Fairfield
Description:
We are glad to say, we have been able to accomplish all three of the tasks for this adventure—and we even had fun and confusion with it.

  • Crazy Fountain. When we got into town, the first thing which we noticed was this fountain, going on and off and which was designed to play in. Thing One is old enough to remember being asked not to splash in fountains. So Thing Two got wet for the cause. We will confess that a bit later, a couple kids look like they knew how to play in this water attraction more than we did.

  • Wildlife Mural. On the way to the fountains, Thing Two saw some murals on streets just off of West Texas. Was one of these a mural which we were looking for? So we walked back down West Texas. Along the way, a baristra from Starbucks came out of the shop and was adoring our T-Shirts. They have been a draw everywhere. Of course, we talk about Capture California. Then off again to find the mural. The mural we found was wonderful, showing all sorts of wildlife in the area. It is wonderfully painted.

  • Chief Solano. Now how can you miss a 12 foot bronze Indian, standing right there in front of a building? Well, Thing One can. We had read somewhere that it was standing in front of a library. Well off we went to the library, about 5 miles away from the downtown area. After snooping around a bit and not finding the statue, we thought, what are libraries for, but to find out things? So in we went and two very helpful librarians explained where the statue was—right back where we came from--the fountain. There was the statue, right around the corner. This statue was dedicated on June 3, 1934 and sculptured by Gordon Huff. Oh yeah, we were not too far off on our search. The building which the statue is by? It is the old county library.
