We really walked for this one, and rather needlessly as well—but since when has that stopped team Thing One, Thing Two. In reality, this building is right around the way from the Leland Stanford House. But we missed it and walked for about half of a mile down 14th street before discovering our mistake. When we returned to it, we figured out, oh that is where the plaque is, hidden behind a bar. What can we say, this place is very non-descript. After all, wouldn't you be thinking the building should be blue?
This building does have a commanding view of the State Capitol. But that is not why it is important. During its hay-day, it served as the headquarters for the California Fruit Exchange. It served as the central place for California fruit between 1932 through 1966—a time when the California market expanded greatly.
