After visiting a majestic looking building--the Sacramento City Hall and taking pictures of it and finding out it is not on registries of historical buildings (maybe buildings that grand should have its own registry, something like grand buildings where nothing important happened in it)--anyway, we went down the street and came to the US Post Office, Courthouse and Federal Building. This is a sort of blockish building after seeing the City Hall. We look around one end and get the brilliant idea that a plaque may be found inside. No! And there are all sorts of stuff to make sure nefarious people like us do not bring in anything deadly (oh yeah, Thing One is packing knives in his hiking pack). A guard looks at suspiciously and then asks us what we want. He then points us to the other side of the building on the outside. Joyful day! We found a plaque.
According to NRHP, the significance of this building for historic purposes is:
Designed in 1931, the Federal building is a good example of the classically influenced French Renaissance building style of which there are few major examples in the West. At the time of its full completion in 1938, the building housed all federal agencies in the area, and thus for many years provided a strong centralized federal presence in the seat of California state government.
