Capture California

What is a YOLT? Well, you may have heard the term YOLO. Gary and Sherri think we can live again, not as James Bond, but as being reborn. Consequently, we are having fun in our life, after all, You Only Live Twice.

Adventure 035 - California Coastal Cleanup

Capture California, the Game-2012
Adventure: 035 – California Coastal Cleanup
Team: Thing One, Thing Two
Date:  September 15, 2012
Location: Fresno
Description:
Where is the coast in Fresno? Well the California Coastal Cleanup is no longer for the coast anymore. Each California county has its own coordinator. In Fresno, the coordinator was the San Joaquin River Parkway, where there were several sites chosen to be cleaned up: Spano Ranch, Van Buren Ranch, and Lost Lake being some of them. Thing One and Thing Two decided on the Spano Ranch, which is just west of Highway 41 on the San Joaquin River.

We arrived at 9am at the Spano Ranch, ready as beavers. After a brief introduction on what we were to do, team Thing One, Thing Two, along with about 14 others-including the Fresno State female equestrian team--charged ahead to make a dent in the debris. And we did a pretty fine job—both team Thing One, Thing Two and all of our partners. Our team brought in 60 pounds of trash, including one box spring matress and 20-30 feet of barb wire. Others brought in sleeping bags from the river, along with the usual assortment of bottles, cans and styrofoam.

But it was not all work on this day, which was projected to be 100 degrees. The Old Towne Kiwanis of Clovis had a hamburger bar-be-que going for all for the volunteers. Even our friends at REI were there to pass out rewards for the work accomplished.

A good day and glad we were there.
