Description:

Thing One being just a young kid in an overgrown body was jazzed that we could visit another train station. Well, the museum was closed, but that let us look around the place, including peering in through office windows. The depot has been recognized for its historic preservation, but the only plaque we saw was concerning the dedication of the building's reconstruction after a fire.

From NRHP:
The depot building that stands just north of the Sonpma Plaza stands as a moot symbol of late nineteenth century California when after the annexation of 1848 farms and vineyards appeared alongside the ranches of the Spanish-Colonial Period. It yet reflects the times when the San Francisco and North Pacific sent its trains from Sausalito, California to return with products of the Valley of the Moon.

Inscription from Waymarking:
On January 2, 1976, The original depot was destroyed by fire. With the united efforts of the city of Sonoma, Sonoma Valley Historical Society and hundreds of interested and dedicated citizens sufficient funds were collected to reconstruct the building. The original depot was constructed in 1880 on the north side of the plaza and in 1890 it was moved to the present location and expanded to accommodate the growing needs of the valley. The city of Sonoma purchased the depot and surrounding three acre in 1975 to preserve for future generations an important era in the history of Sonoma.
