Adventure: 008,
Hike 119 -McGurk Meadow
Team: Thing One,
Thing Two
Date:
September 14, 2012
Location: Yosemite
Glacier point road
Hike Info:
Trail: McGurk Meadow
Distance: 1.6 miles
Duration: 0:47
Elevation Rise: 383'
Description:
The trail goes past McGurk’s
cabin. The cabin is very low to the ground. Thing One and Thing Two
were wondering if McGurk would crawl into the cabin. John McGurk was
the third owner of this property. The first owner misfiled the
coordinates of the meadow. The coordinates filed were 6 miles away
on Illiuette Creek. He then sold it to another individual which sold
it to McGurk. McGurk was forced off the land by the army when the
invalid land deed was discovered.
We started this trail late afternoon.
Sierra meadows are always very pretty. A stream runs through this
meadow. In the early season it there would be abundant with flowers.
We enjoyed the meadow for a bit and then decided to turn around to go
back to the car. It was getting close to the time when you can see
large mammals especially in a meadow. Thing Two was jumping at
branches cracking and keeping an extra eye out for bears. But alas
there were no bears or deer except for the dear hiking with me. So
we got back to the car with another enjoyable hike had for the day.
